The ability of a material to absorb water in water is called hydroscopicity. The water absorption of the material is expressed by the water absorption rate, which has two methods: mass water absorption rate and volume water absorption rate.
① Mass water absorption Wm: refers to the material water absorption saturation, the absorbed water mass accounted for the mass of dry material percentage, expressed by the following formula: Wm=(mg-mb)/mb
Wm -- mass water absorption, %;
mb -- mass of the material in the dry state, g;
mg -- the mass of the material at water absorption saturation, g.
② volume water absorption Wv: refers to the material water absorption saturation, the volume of water absorption accounted for the percentage of the natural volume of dry material, expressed in the following formula: Wv=(mg-mb)/(V0*ρw)
Wv -- volume water absorption, %;
V0 -- natural volume of dry material, cm3
ρw -- density of water, g/cm3
Other symbols have the same meaning as before.
There is the following relationship between the two kinds of water absorption: Wm=Wv*ρw.
